Ingredient Spotlight: Magnesium + Squalane
Magnesium is an essential macro mineral that the body needs to stay healthy. It plays an important role in the well-being of our body and brain function. Your body doesn’t produce magnesium and needs this nutrient from outside sources, such as topical creams, sprays as well as food sources. The most common benefits of magnesium are:
- helping the body relax
- reducing tension
- improving sleep
- bone health
- reduction of cramps and premenstrual symptoms
- reducing inflammation
The Abundant Health Magnesium + Cucumber is a great topical source of organic magnesium, minerals, vitamins and nutrients. The addition of cucumber allows the magnesium to penetrate into the bloodstream whilst providing your skin with increased hydration and exfoliation.
Squalane is naturally produced by humans and plays an important role in keeping our skin balanced and naturally moisturised. As babies we are born with it and start losing it from our bodies by the time we are in our twenties. It also helps promote elasticity in skin and can prevent acne and inflammation from occurring. Basically our skin needs squalene to feel balanced and to stay looking youthful.
It is important to know that there are two forms of squalane: animal based and plant based forms. Traditionally SQUALENE (not squalane) is derived from the shark liver oil and I personally don’t think this is ethical, however it is important to know the difference and origins of this ingredient. The plant based form of SQUALANE is sourced from olives.
Biossance formulates one of the best clean, plant based forms of squalene that is derived from renewable sugarcane that is also sustainable. This is not only good for your skin, but good for the environment too. The Biossance squalane is:
- providing instant hydration
- absorbing into your skin instantly (weightless)
- free from toxins
Squalane is great for all skin types and the Biossance formula is especially great if your skin has had trouble absorbing this ingredient in the past.
